Country Swing & Line Dancing Competition

Get ready for a full night of high-energy dancing, competition, and community as Steel Creek hosts a beginner-friendly Country Swing & Line Dance Competition right here in Tacoma.

Whether you’re stepping onto the floor for the first time or ready to test your skills, this event is built to showcase rising dancers in a fun, supportive, and electric environment. From swing partner matchups to choreographed line dance battles, competitors will face off in front of judges for a chance to take home custom belt buckles, prizes, and bragging rights.

Expect a packed dance floor, great music, and a night that blends competition with the signature Steel Creek party atmosphere. Even if you’re not competing, this is one of the most exciting nights to be in the building.

    • 4:00 PM – Doors Open & Registration

    • 5:30 PM – Registration Closes

    • 6:30 PM – Competition Begins

    • 8:00 PM – Finals

    • 9:30 PM – Awards

    RULES & ELIGIBILITY

    • Open to beginner-level dancers only

    • No intermediate/advanced competitors in swing divisions

    • Must meet eligibility requirements based on CSDC/NCDC rankings

    MUSIC & FORMAT

    • Swing: Two-song prelim rounds + full-song finals

    • Line Dance: Pre-selected choreography

    • DJ controlled during judging rounds

Judgment criteria

Swing

Technical

● The dance should demonstrate - country swing with a rotational basic, rubber band effects.

Timing

●  Relative timing, slow dance to slow songs, fast dance to fast songs

●  One-step timing, one step per beat, those who dance on beats receive better scoring

●  The dance should go to the rhythm set forth by the music. Single timing structures

Teamwork

● The dance should demonstrate good communication between the partners in the dance through physical connection, spatial awareness, and eye contact.

Content

● The styling and variations were added to the dance.

Showmanship

● The overall performance of the dance.

Line Dance

Timing

● Line dance should be executed with proper step sheet timing, and variations must be on time with the music.

Technique

● Line dance should be executed according to how the stepsheet was written; variations and stepsheet choreography should demonstrate good body mechanics, foot placements, articulation, arm engagement, and facial expressions.

Content

● The styling and variations were added to the stepsheet choreography.
